Default Modern Warfare 2 showing even bigger cracks.

The first signs of Modern Warfare 2's charm starting to wear off on PC gamers at large is starting to become evident.

Xfire's most played games list is lately showing that COD4 has already re-overtaken Modern Warfare 2 in the rankings, now sitting as follows:

1st: World of Warfcraft with 10 300 000 hours played today.
2nd: Call of Duty 4 with 7 200 000 hours played today.
3rd: Modern Warfare 2 with 6 300 000 hours played today.

Overall a pretty poor show for such a new game, demonstrating the lack of community support, and quick loss of faith in the new game's ability to provide long term "fun" for even casual gamers, those very people IW expected to attract to their game in droves.

GG & G'night MW2.

But that's a bit of a ridiculous assumption. I'm actually quite surprised at you French.

Modern Warfare 2 has to be installed through Steam. Parties are formed, invites sent and games joined through Steam. Text and voice chat through Steam. There's absolutely no reason for people to be running xFire if they're playing MW2. Which means that playstats won't be tracked accurately. One could just as easily twist it the other way and say that according to the Steam stats MW2 had a peak of 95000 players, whereas MW only had 534, therefore CoD4 is failing to satisfy (on an enormous scale I might add) the level of complexity and interaction PC gamers demand from their multiplayer experience.

And considering only 6% of MW2 sales were for the PC I don't think Infinity Ward will be too pissed off at themselves.

Nice point Brambles xD

That said the post did only refer to the PC share of the market so percentage sales figures mean little to us. We're fine being a niche, as long as we're satisfied.

That said, I still stand by my ground as the figures on the xfire stats have diminished significantly. Maybe not fully representative, but MW2 has taken a dive in xfire stats.

Aye tis true, even I'm getting slightly weary of not being able to choose maps. I'm still holding out hope that at some point there'll be plenty of deds available with no chance of a VAC ban when you join them. Though that said, I've not seen anyone hacking yet so VAC seems to be doing it's job alright...

If you hack and get caught it's an instant permaban from every server though. That's one plus with no deds. Not like the crap punkbuster "you've been naughty, play somewhere else".

I think i just found the best post-match award in MW2.

"Decimator". Killed entire enemy team without dying.
