Graphics cards
I'm currently thinking of buying a new graphics card, what would you guys suggest I'd go for HD5870, Nvidia GTX 400 series or wait for the new wave of graphics cards to be released? If the last alternative, when can I expect all these new cards to hit the market?

Next year Nvdia is coming out with its next gen. of chips starting next year called "Kepler"(They make a new one every 2 years) The first ones out prbly wont be perfect so its basically your choice ;P

Dude the 5870 is a beast its super powerful and relatively cool and power efficient. I'd recommend it 110%

5870 it is then! One question though, it uses PCI-E 2.1 and as far as I know my motherboard has PCI-E 2.0. Will this card still work for me?
Edit: Huh, the specifications tab on the site I'm thinking about ordering the card from shows it's PCI-E 2.1, but everywhere else it's PCI-E 2.0. Maybe they just made a little mistake there?

Ewww! I hate ATI... Did you know that ATI is going to close down their graphic card branch later next year? From then on their doing integrated graphic cards with the cpu. Nvdia ftw!

There going to go into integrated with their cpu. I recall reading that off their own website actually :P And actually the 480 Nvdia card is pwning everything to mars and back ^^

Yah but the 480 also emits enough heat to fry bacon and sucks more power from the PSU than the Large Hadron Collider. Oh and did i mention for the price of the 480 you could buy a 5870, a new 750W PSU to power it, and a can of coke to pat yourself on the back for a job well done!
And yes... they are combining AMD CPUs with ATI GPUs for a more kick ass version of the intel i3s. But that doesnt mean they are stopping the production of their desktop GPUs
