Default CS:S (Maybe CA) FPS drop

Alright, I don't know about CA seeing as it just lags all the time, and nothing I do can stop it, it used to run fine but now it just lags more every patch.

Anyways in CS:S I will start a game at about 30-40 (50 if I'm lucky) FPS. I know thats low, my computers not good at all.

However in about 2-5 rounds into the game, it drops to around 10-20 FPS. Sometimes lower.

SPECS:
Windows XP
Pentium 4 2.66 ghz
ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO AGP
2gig RAM

So how can I stop this FPS drop?

Also, running CS:S at the lowest possible settings, with the Caseys CAL config put in, with my own little tweaks to put it even lower.

One solution would be to upgrade your PC, but there's got to be some other way too.

My old PC used to fps drop after extended use of scope in cod4, which was probs the most graphically intensive thing you use in cod, scoping and unscoping.

It's not the same thing exactly, but I get the impression that the older a PC gets, the more it develops its own mind. Equally, i GENUINELY believe my old gfx card used to get "tired"

Cards do get tired, it's called overheating I believe :P This happens alot more often if the PC is filled with dust too.

hahaha

I do have a new computer, but the person who was fixing it, has not finished as something is wrong and he doesn't know what to do.

Maybe something of mine is overheating? I tried 2 things to check if my gfx card or CPU is overheating...both are incompatible lol...

Any ideas though? I want to get this fixed so I can play CS:S until I get my new computer.
