Default Screwed Harddrive

Hey all,

I came back from Download Fest yesterday only to be told my computer wasnt working. I've tried various things and have come to the conclusion... my harddrive isnt working!

Anyone know any waysd to recover it?
Also... If i take it to a repair shop and they do it would it be risky because I have a few downloaded albums on it etc.. Not sure what the reponsibility of these places are!?

Either way I'm gonna be inactive for a while ingame.

Cya soon #

It could be the controller that's the problem. Try switching it to a different sata port on the mobo. Or try connecting it to another computer and see if it works then. If it doesn't then it is the hard drive.
You can try putting it in a freezer in a plastic bag for about an hour, which cools and shrinks the moving parts and can let them pop back into place. Do you know if it was clicking at all before it died? Also, what make of hard drive was it?
If it's not mechanical it's almost certainly a fried logic board, in which case you could try to find a drive with the same version of firmware and chipset as yours and replace it.
Or go with the pros. I think data recovery is horrendously expensive though, isn't it?

And the shop shouldn't care whether you've got any downloaded albums on there. As long as the kiddy porn is hidden properly you'll be alright.
